DVD Rental News 2008 :

What Are Your DVD Rights .
28th Dec, 2008

We are often asked the same question over and over again: "When you pay to rent a dvd and its scracthed so your viewing is more or less tainted and it stops, are you entitled to a refund / rerental or does it dpened on the shop". Well, we would say that if you suffer this problem with your DVD Rental service, then the product has failed to perform. We recommnd that you contact your DVD Rental provider and request that your are refunded or credited against your DVD Rental account. We have done this and on each occasion the DVD Rental company has either shipped an addtional DVD to make up for your loss, or credited your DVD Rental account to provide additional time for you top rent another DVD without incuring extra money.

6th Dec, 2008

The VAT reductions announced by the government have found their way to the DVD Rental companies. Some of the DVD Rental providers have already announced a reduction in VAT on DVD Rental services from 17.5 % to 15% . So now there's never been a better time to take up a DVD Rental services.

DVD Rental Still Cheapest Option for Consumers .
1st Dec, 2008

DVD Rental from the store is still relatively expensive. A top movie will still cost £2-£3 per night and that still has the hastle of going out on a wet and cold night to choose the DVD and then you have to make the same trip to take it back. If your late you still have the charges that go with it. DVD Rental online is still therefore the best option. DVD rental can be as little as a few pence per DVD dependng on how many DVD's you can watch each month. Online DVD Rental, unlike store rental, gets cheaper on a per DVD basis the more DVD's you manage to watch each month. The price of a DVD from the store remains the same no matter how many you rent.

How we think DVD Rental could be improved .
29th Octt, 2008

According to the online DVD Rental websites they offer thousdands of top title dvd's for rental. While we are massive fans of DVD Rental its all to often the case that your top priotiy titles seem to take ages before they arrive on your doormat.

Can this be improved. Absolutely! We think there are simple ways the DVD Rental companies can improve their service. First come first serve. If you clicked on a title to add to your view list then you should have priority over those that clicked later. Second, the dvd rental companies could be a little more honest. When you click on a title they should give an honest forecast of when you are likely to receive your DVD. Third, the online dvd rental companies should buy more of the most p[opular DVD's. This last option might cost more, but they would provide a better over all online dvd rental service and their customers might stay around longer.

This all sounds simple. Will the DVD Rental companies adopt these three possibilities for improving DVD rental> Probably not. They will con tinue to take our money and keep things the same......

Blu Ray is Comming .
6th Oct, 2008

It seemed to take for ever, but the Blu Ray HDVD war is finally over. This means we are now likely to see the emergence of a decent range of Blu ray dvd's finding their way onto the dvd rental lists. It is slow to happen though, current Blockbuster lead the pack with with 676 and lovefilm only slightly behind with 636 Blu Ray dvd titles to rent. The Blu DVD Rental gap then widens quite a bit. Cinema Paradiso has slightly more than 400 titles while MyMovieStream has just 100 Blu Ray DVD's for rental.

Buying a Blu Ray DVD off the shelf is still a rather expensive proposition. However you can rent a dvd from your dvd rental provider with no extra costs which means you can benefit from the hi definition experience for no extra money, and thats got to be a good thing .

With banks failing all around us, petrol and energy prices rising DVD rental is set to weather out the storm. The fact is that renting a DVD offers a great entertainment on a budget.
